Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement Awards Ceremony

The inaugural ceremony for the first ever Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement Award(JCPA) was held today in the school. 141 Transition Year and five 5th Year students received their JCPA certificates during a special presentation in the school hall this morning. The Chairperson of the Board of Management, Ms Maria Kelly, presented the certificates to the girls. The Junior Certificate results are listed on the certificates as well as a new section called ‘Other Areas of Learning’. This is the first time that extra-curricular and co-curricular activities have been celebrated on a school certificate along with academic results.

Reform of the Junior Cycle, which was designed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, began in September 2014 and subjects are being phased in gradually. The school are feeling very positive about the Junior Cycle Reform and according to Junior Cycle Co-ordinator, Ms Genevieve Cooney, ‘Junior Cycle Reform will help to facilitate independent learning and the development of critical thinking skills. Wellbeing underpins the entire programme. This is a step in the right direction for the Irish Education system and this development is in the best interest of all of our students.’
